Single-span beam

Design of solid timber beams

Beams with solid cross-sections are widely used in timber construction as beams, rafters, purlins and girders. In addition to the verifications at the ultimate limit state, serviceability requirements often govern the dimensions of the structural members. The Single-Span Beam module enables the design and verification of bending members made from solid timber.

Module T09

Single-span beams can be designed using Module T09 in accordance with DIN EN 1995-1-1:2010-12 in conjunction with the applicable National Application Documents.
 

MATERIALS

The following materials are available:

  • Softwood
  • Glued laminated timber
  • BauBuche according to ETA-14/0354 dated 11 July 2018
    (free design in the basic version)
  • Pollmeier Spruce G-LVL according to Z-9.1-932 dated 24 June 2025
    (free design in the basic version)
  • Hasslacher GLT Birch according to ETA-19/0031 dated 12 August 2021
    (free design in the basic version)

BauBuche, Spruce G-LVL and birch glued laminated timber can be designed free of charge in the basic version of the module.
 

VERIFICATIONS

The following verifications are performed:

  • Shear resistance of the cross-section
  • Lateral-torsional buckling
  • Verification of initial deformation
  • Verification of final deformation
  • Verification of total deformation
